TREATMENT THAT WORKS & RECOVERY THAT LASTS

Specialized Drug & Alcohol Addiction Treatment

At American Psychiatric Group, our addiction psychiatrists and therapists specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of substance abuse and the mental health conditions that accompany it. We treat people of all ages who have addictions to illegal drugs, alcohol, and prescription medications complicated by coexisting mental health disorders, such as depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia.

We integrate medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and intensive outpatient treatment programs (IOP) to treat addictions to both drugs and alcohol.

Day Programs

We provides treatment in an outpatient setting that feels like a primary care clinic. Our convenient locations allow patients to stay at home, but go to treatment during the day. Our IOP option allows patients to maintain a more normal day routine.

Same Day Admission

Patients are scheduled for their first appointment within 24 hours or on the same day if possible. Walk-ins are welcome and urgent referrals from community partners such as jails and emergency departments are prioritized.

No Penalties

We understand that addiction is a chronic condition where slips and relapses are common. While return to use episodes will trigger a review of a patient’s treatment plan, patients are never penalized or expelled.

No Financial Barriers

We endeavor to help every patient who comes to us for treatment, regardless of insurance status. All forms of insurance including Medicaid and Medicare are accepted and financial assistance and payment plans are available.Request Appointment

Opioid Use Disorder

Opioid use disorder is a chronic disease that can be managed with treatment.

Opioid use disorder, or opioid addiction, causes neurological and cognitive changes that can lead to harmful, self-destructive behaviors and compulsive, involuntary drug-use.

We are dedicated to helping people recover from addiction to opioids through access to Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). Opioids include prescription pain medications such as codeine, Percocet, Vicodin, OxyContin, Hydrocodone and Demerol, as well as illicit street opioids like heroin and fentanyl.

Medication Assisted Treatment combines prescription medication like Suboxone (and other buprenorphine based medications) with behavioral therapy to treat opioid addiction. American Psychiatric Group helps patients overcome the physical, emotional and social barriers associated with recovery.

What to Expect:

Four Stages of Treatment

We care for every patient with empathy, respect, patience and understanding. Most of our patients stay with Ideal Option for 12 months or longer and typically progress through an evidence-based four-stage treatment protocol.

Stage 1

During the first two weeks of treatment, our patients visit our clinic twice per week and we prescribe 3-5 days of medication at a time.

Stage 2

Over the next four weeks of treatment, as our patients stabilize, we see them weekly and prescribe 7 days of medication at each visit.

Stage 3

After approximately six weeks of treatment, patients who are showing signs of stability may be able to see us once every two weeks.

Stage 4

Very stable patients may eventually shift into a maintenance phase with appointments once every 3-4 weeks for as long as necessary.

Alcohol Use Disorder

Alcohol use disorder can be successfully treated with medications.

Seeking professional treatment for an abuse disorder is imperative as quitting alcohol without any medical intervention can lead to severe withdrawal seizures and even death.

Treatment initially aims to ease the withdrawal symptoms by close monitoring and prescribing a slow taper off medications, formally known as medication-assisted therapy (MAT). Medication-assisted treatment is used for opioid abuse, nicotine addiction, and alcohol use disorder and consists of a combination of medications that works to alleviate the withdrawal effects so the recovery journey can go as smooth as possible.

We utilize a combination of medically assisted treatment for alcohol and psychotherapy is known to be the most successful in the treatment of alcohol use disorder. Effective MAT for alcohol dependence has been shown with the FDA approved medications Naltrexone (ReVia, Depade), Naltrexone for Extended-Release Injectable Suspension (VIVITROL), Disulfiram (Antabuse) and Acamprosate Calcium (Campral).

What to Expect:

How Our Program Works

An experienced addiction medicine provider will assess your alcohol dependence and then help you follow a personalized medication-assisted treatment plan for withdrawal management and relapse prevention.

Assess

To develop your personalized treatment plan and before prescribing medication, your provider will perform a series of clinical assessments and lab tests to diagnose alcohol use disorder, and if you are still drinking, determine the likely severity of your withdrawal period. For severe cases, inpatient treatment may be recommended.

Withdraw

If you are still drinking when you start the program, the next step is withdrawal management. Your provider will develop a personalized medication-assisted treatment plan and meet with you daily for a 4-5 days as you manage your withdrawal at home. If possible, arrange for a responsible adult to be with you at all times during withdrawal.

Abstain

After the withdrawal period, you will transition to a different medication plan designed to prevent relapse. You will start with weekly appointments and then shift to bi-weekly and then monthly as you become more stable. Occasional lab tests will be performed to ensure your safety and to monitor progress.

Methamphetamine Use Disorder

Methamphetamine use disorder treatment.

Methamphetamine use disorder is associated with severe health complications, risk of fatal overdose, and is notoriously difficult to treat and overcome.

Currently, there are no FDA-approved medications to treat this disorder. However, recent clinical studies supports the utilization of a combination of naltrexone and bupropion over a placebo for patients suffering from methamphetamine use disorder was safe and effective.

At American Psychiatric Group we use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and medication for methamphetamine treatment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

How Our Program Works

Patients will meet with an addiction medicine provider regularly for 6 months to a year or longer before safely tapering off the medication. If patients are using both meth and opioids, their treatment plan may include buprenorphine. Counseling will also be offered.

Assess

To develop your personalized treatment plan and before prescribing medication, your provider will assess your health and medical history, and determine if you are using any substances other than methamphetamines.

Treat

Based on the results of your assessment and lab test, your provider will prescribe a combination of medications such as bupropion, naltrexone, and buprenorphine.

Recover

Once you are stable and comfortable on your medications, you will meet with your provider regularly and receive counseling and other support services you need to help you stay off methamphetamines and work toward long-term recovery.

MAT TREATMENT

Medication Assisted Treatment Benefits

1. Individualized Care

Patients at APG and other treatment centers have personalized care plans that account for their needs. Since addiction also influences the patient’s personal life in various ways, professionals need to tailor care to the patient’s unique circumstances.

Your individualized treatment plan includes services that help you achieve your recovery goals. You will receive medication, therapy and other support services that suit your experience with addiction.

2. Comprehensive and Supportive Therapy

As part of your individualized MAT program, you will take part in one-on-one therapy sessions. A counselor who understands opioid use disorder will talk with you about your recovery goals and how to achieve them.

They can help you build coping strategies to manage your triggers for use and reclaim your life. We also provide group and family therapy. In these counseling sessions, you will work with other patients or your loved ones to understand your recovery journey.

3. Professional Staff Ready to Help

The staff members at an addiction treatment center have the training and compassion to help patients with opioid use disorder. Dedicated clinics like APG have certifications that ensure they always provide top-quality services.

Addiction treatment professionals also dedicate themselves to creating an accepting environment. They understand that people with substance use disorder face stigma in the community and need unconditional support.

4. Safe Environment for Treatment

Your MAT program will give you a safe setting where you can recover from opioid addiction. It will have the resources you need to start treatment and stay committed to your recovery goals. Patients who receive MAT have lower crime rates than recovering patients who still take street opioids.

They also have a reduced risk of diseases such as HIV and hepatitis. Staying in a MAT program also provides an environment where the patient’s chance of success rises as they remain in treatment.

5. Care and Service Coordination

Receiving MAT at a substance use disorder clinic also allows you to get care and support that meets all your needs. Your case manager can coordinate your services. They can also refer you to community organizations that can help with housing, food and other necessities.

Each treatment center’s services can differ depending on their resources and patients. The care management staff will ensure you receive care that brings you closer to your treatment goals.
